Perama, located to the east of Corfu and 7 km away from Corfu town, constitutes a lovely area just opposite the famous Pontikonisi (Mouse Island) and the area of Kanoni, which belongs to NATURA 2000 protected areas in Greece. Kanoni, offers amazing views to Pontikonisi island, looking straight out of a painting. Pontikonisi lies at the ancient ILAIKOU port and constitutes one of the most scenic spots along with the Monastery of Vlacherna.
Concerning the area of Kanoni, it can be reached from Perama by a walkway. Perama was a famous tourist resort mainly during the decades of 1980 and 1990. It is notable that in the past even the Durrells chose to live in the area of Perama, the family of the English leading writer Lawrence Durrell, while Perama was also Sissy’s (Empress of Austria) favorite place which used to visit quite often. Nowadays, it is still a vibrant place with a wide variety of hotels and apartments, such as Pontikonisi Hotel, providing the nicest stay to visitors.
